Day 2: The Mekong River + Midnight Antics

Wednesday, July 17, 2013

We ventured down south towards the Mekong Delta to check out the Cai Be Floating Market. We arrived a little too late into the day to see all the real hussle of the market, but there was still plenty to take in.

Tourists...

They took us to visit a honey farm, a coconut candy factory, and a durian plantation.

Snake wine. Better believe I had a shot.

The delta was beautiful and I'm glad I got to see it. If I were to make a recommendation, I'd say to take some time to spend a night in the area to see the best of the Floating Market, as well as explore the nine rivers that make it up. Different tours offer different perks, but try to find one that'll let you try out cycling to get off the beaten track.

Dinner. Grilled octopus with this cilantro pepper sauce. Ace.

The central Ben Thanh Market

I forgot what this was called... It's basically sweet flavored rice topped with condensed milk and coconut shavings. Freakiiiing good!

And the eating never stops. Round #23431, I believe? Pork skewers, chicken feet, and more beer,

Oh, and don't forget the fried chicken.

Day 2: Done. Saigon, you're a charmer.
