Day 6: Tôi yêu em, Việt Nam!
Monday, October 28, 2013
We all hate it, but sometimes you just have to be a tourist. And more often than not, you end up thanking yourself at the end of the day. For my final day in Vietnam we picked up some che for breakfast and hopped on the back of a tuk-tuk for one last ride around the Old Quarter.
The Notre Dame Catherdral. Built by the French in the 1800s when they colonized Vietnam.
Apparently it's quite the twin to the one in Paris.
Legend has it that this lake is home to a 100 year old turtle. If you're lucky enough to spot it, you'll have a lifetime's worth of good fortune!

To be completely honest...I slept through the entire thing.
And that's when my battery gave out...

That's it! My trip down south and all its entirety. As I headed out for the airport bright and early at 5 AM the next day, I already started to feel a sense of nostalgia. This was the first trip I've taken with my friends without the company of my family, and, though it did have its downs, I couldn't be happier with how the beginning of my summer turned out. Halong Bay, the outdoor markets, speeding around on the back of a motorbike, all the history, the humbling and truly hospitable people, and ohhhh the food. I only got to spend around five days in lovely Vietnam, but I already know that I'll definitely be back again for more.
