If you're new to Korea, you'll come to learn that over here, we celebrate things for no apparent reason, and today is just one of those days. It's 11/11 and that can only mean... Pepero Day! Also known as Single Awareness Day #34174! Just kidding (half-kidding). Unlike other couple-y days, this one is celebrated by just about everyone. Chocolate pretzel sticks for all!

History Lesson: Pepero Day originated in the 90's when middle school girls in Busan exchanged boxes of them and wished their friends would grow to be as tall and slender as a stick of Pepero. They chose this day because 11/11 looked a lot like four sticks of Pepero. The practice caught on in other schools, Lotte then took advantage of the situation, and now we all drive oil into this great marketing scheme :)

Love it or hate it, this unofficial holiday has the country's crazy consumer mentally wrapped around its little finger, and it isn't going anywhere. Not that I have a problem with that! I love Pepero! Especially the almond kind that comes in the green box (hint hint), so much so that I got bought myself a box. No shame in that...
