Eating My Way Through the Week

Tuesday, October 21, 2014

It's October and it's starting to get a bit chilly, so I'm just going to take that as an excuse to eat and drink as much of everything as I can outdoors before the brrr month blues really start to kick in.

While I'd like nothing more than to hide under the covers until we're back at regular 20 degrees, life keeps getting in the way. That's how it always seem to go, doesn't it?

But when it nudges in the form of sangria, ice cream, and fresh outta the water sashimi, which coincidentally not-so-coincidentally was exactly what I had this past few weeks, putting some pants on caaaan be well worth it.

Sometime during the weekend I met up with Austin at an outdoor cafe.

We chit chatted and got caught up on each other's lives. Lots happened while I was away, and a slice of carrot cake went great with the side of gossip.

Cheers! It started to pour later on in the day so to escape the rain, we tucked into a little Spanish tapas restaurant. We both had separate dinner plans, but we couldn't say no to a glass or two of the good stuff.

On a Thursday, I spent the evening with the lovely Janis. She always posts pictures of the most amazing food on her Instagram, so after incessantly hounding her to take me next time, she finally budged and introduced me to Hapjeong's Pan Fan.

Bulgogi Salad, Mushroom Mi Goreng, Spicy Shrimp Fried Rice

Our friend David tagged along, and he does NOT appreciate waiting around for the perfect photo when there's food to be eaten!

But be on the lookout for the restaurant's security detail!

Erm, I guess he clocked out for the night... This might be a good time to mention that Pan Fan is pup friendly. Looking forward to bringing Captain here one day soon!

And what's a night out without something sweet to top it off?  Everyone has been commenting on how it almost looks like vanilla poop, but give it a chance. Sobok's ice cream is made out of the 100% brown rice grain and will probably be one of the healthiest things you'll ever have for dessert. It's topped with sunflower seeds, sweet pumpkin chucks, drizzled with honey, and served with a tiny soybean ice rice cake ball. Weird..but it works!

I loved how everything felt very eco-friendly with paper cones and wooden spoons and a recycling bin right in the center of the store. Just remember that the flower is just for decoration...I tried and it just tastes like...flowers.

"Janis! Sit over there and look like you're having the best time ever!"
Thank you, friends, for dealing with all my crazy.

On another night, I took to the wet market in Norangjin.

I seafood!!! Pick and choose to your fancy, making sure to fight for a bargain, and then leave it up to the vendor to chop, slice, and dice your fishy purchase into some of the freshest sashimi there is.

I ate my way through the week. What's new?
