Where to Eat in Seoul During the Holidays 2014
Thursday, December 11, 2014With only 14 days till Christmas, have you figured out where you'll be celebrating the yuletide festivities?
My friend Kyle called last night to see if I had any recommendations on where to take a gal for dinner during the holidays. After a bit of poking and prying, I rounded up the names of some of the swankiest joints in town guaranteed to knock her socks off...
For fine dining options, try Top Cloud on the 33rd
floor of Jongno Tower for a feast for the eyes and nibbles on your plate. Its grand
floor-to-ceiling windows show off Seoul’s twinkling city lights at night and
will be sure to leave a bit of twinkle in your date’s eye, too. Oroom Dining
at Cheongdam looks promising, but be prepared to spend a pretty penny. Oh, and
if you do visit, try their Bouillabaisse Style Seafood Stew and let me know if
it’s everything I dream it is…
For more of a casual affair, Pan Fan in Hapjeong is
a fun little hideaway (*get the bulgogi salad*). Something similar but on the
other side of town is Tasting Room. Lots of pastas and flatbreads and dipping
sauces here, perfect for sharing, and their sweets menu looks absolutely to die
fooorrr.
To partake in a traditional Korean dinner (which, oddly enough, is left out of most itineraries of those visiting Seoul), Insadong is your best bet. Seokparang 석파랑 brings back the traditional flavors of the Joseon Dynasty, and sets a table fit for a nobleman – with all the antique silverware and everything!

If you’re looking for some good ol’ Christmas
turkey, I got some of that too. The bigger hotels around the city like Westin
Chosun and Grand Hyatt typically offer the holiday bird in their buffet
restaurants. Suji’s in Itaewon is famous for their Christmas dinners, as is the
one in Wolfhound Pub. Reservations are absolutely necessary so make sure to
make yours early!
If you’re looking to venture out of your comfort zone,
why not give your taste buds the gift of a tasting menu this Christmas? I say
don’t miss the authentic South African dishes of Braai Republic. I went for brunch once and it was great! This year they
have both a lunch and dinner special which includes their mouth-watering lamb
roulade. There’s also the Asian buffet at the Banyan Tree Granum dining lounge
featuring Singaporean chili crab yum!
If you call now and with a little bit of luck, you might just land yourself a table for two for you and your special somebody (I'm starting to sound like an infomercial -_-). Or bring the whole family and make it a party of ten. Or even just for one! Nothing wrong with that. And now I'm just rambling okay bye~~~
Happy holidays and happy eatings!
